Mobikey Truck and Bus East Africa is set on expanding its market share in the region’s commercial vehicle sector, capitalizing on the region’s rapid economic growth and high demand for transportation. As the official distributor of MAN trucks and buses in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, Mobikey is focusing on the public transport, construction, and mining sectors to strengthen its foothold in key East African markets.
At a recent event in Nairobi, where Mobikey showcased its new MAN long-distance Coach models in 6×2 and 4×2 variants, CEO Ricardo Teixeira expressed the company’s ambition to capture a larger share of the competitive market. Teixeira noted that MAN has made significant inroads in the bus segment, competing with brands like Mercedes-Benz, Nissan UD, Isuzu, and Scania.
“We are thrilled to present our new MAN Long Distance Coach chassis, which offers high performance, low running costs, and excellent fuel efficiency. This platform also explores future public transportation solutions,” Teixeira said.
Mobikey has partnered with SBM Bank Kenya and other financial institutions to provide asset-financing solutions, a key part of its strategy to drive sales. “With the region’s rapidly growing economies and the increasing need for safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation, it is crucial to offer solutions that also ensure operator profitability. Alongside MAN, we are committed to transforming public transportation in the region through innovative mobility solutions,” Teixeira added.
These financial partnerships enable bus operators to secure up to 100 percent financing for new MAN buses. Mobikey also assembles units locally for the Kenyan market and exports to neighboring countries, in addition to handling fully built imports.
According to the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMI), Mobikey Truck and Bus sold 36 units up to July this year, making it one of the 11 key dealers of new vehicles in Kenya. “In the next five years, I envision Mobikey as a leading player in the region with a strong portfolio of high-quality products, striving for the top spot,” Teixeira affirmed.
SBM Bank Kenya, represented at the event, highlighted the timing of the partnership as ideal for boosting economic growth through increased investment in key sectors. “We are proud to collaborate with Mobikey, a respected name in the movable assets sector in East Africa. This partnership allows us to offer our customers an exceptional range of asset financing options to support their growth and achieve their financial objectives,” the bank representative stated.
With over six years in the East African market, Mobikey Truck and Bus delivers MAN trucks and buses, Hyundai construction equipment, Randon trailers, and Powertrac tractors. It is part of the JAP Group, a prominent name in the automotive and mobility sector in Portugal and Africa.
